    The shouty work/interface/technique/treatment

    in General Discussions

I’m getting auditions for animation/video games that require widely different volumes. Maybe this is better addressed through mic technique or treatment, but I’ve been getting frustrated with the tiny little gain knobs on the Scarlet as I work my way through the takes. Any recommendations for interfaces with (cool it, Brits) larger knobs? Been looking at the Volt 276.

So glad you asked!! I did a Home Studio Primer follow up the other night, and as I was gathering my notes to send to everyone, I went down the UA Volt rabbit hole. Omg! The 1176 compressors from back in the day. They claim to have replicated that inside their new volt interfaces (the models that include the numbers 76). The 276 costs $299. If you only need one mic input, you can save some money and get the 176. Watch some YouTube videos on how to manage the compression. It doesn’t give a lot of control - but I have to think it’s pretty good. I want to get my hands on one. I also love that they connect to IPads!
