Celebrating America 250 with the Circle of 7

A couple of times a month, I host a small, focused workout called the Circle of 7—seven voice actors, two hours, and a deep dive into the copy. Sometimes it’s an audition workout for real-time feedback. Sometimes we lean hard into specific VO disciplines like parsing dense pharma copy, mastering the art of the legal speed-read, or reading to picture.
But a few times a year, we honor a major holiday by going all-out and fully producing a spec spot from scratch.
Our most recent event was the Circle of 7: America 250 / July 4th group. We had seven incredible women sign up, and we crafted a piece built entirely around the strength of their unique voices. We kicked things off with a collaborative group warmup to get everyone comfortable playing off one another before diving into "Tapestry" :60—our main goal for the night.

After establishing the vibe over Zoom, we pivoted to individual tracking via Source-Connect to capture the reads exactly as we would in a high-level commercial session. Honestly, the toughest part of directing a powerhouse group of diverse talent isn't getting a great read—it's solving the puzzle of the edit. Finding the perfect line for the perfect voice so the entire piece fits seamlessly is where the magic happens. It all came together beautifully, and I’m incredibly proud to share the final mix!
Thanks to Susan Brickell, Danielle Aubuchon, Bonnie Optekman, Sarah Seltz, Juani Tantillo, Susan Cohen DeStefano and Prairie Griffith to participating in this group!

I hope your July 4th celebrations are filled with great food, close family, good friends... and plenty of fireworks. As America kicks off its 250th year, let's take a quiet moment to remember the immense journeys, diverse cultures, and deep histories of those who came before us—everything that paved the way for the voices we use to tell our stories today.
Have a safe, happy, and sonically stellar Fourth!
