Recorder- new from Source Elements!

Source Elements, the creators of Source Connect, Source Nexus, and a suite of other industry-standard tools, is at it again. Their latest offering completely eliminates the need to launch a heavy DAW just to run a backup, deliver files, or verify you are hitting specs.

The best part? It is 100% FREE.

Launched today, the simply named "Recorder" is now automatically included with every Source Elements account.

According to Source Elements:

"Recorder is what happens when we apply the same care to the asynchronous side. When the room can't be shared, the takes still can. A browser-based recorder built for one job—and a UI that gives one voice the whole stage. No 24 empty tracks waiting for music or film. No interface saddling you with capability you'll never use. No software to install, troubleshoot, or learn."

Kudos to the team at Source Elements for leading the charge on simplifying these historically frustrating workflows.

Click here to log into your Source Elements account and try it out! It does NOT require a paid plan to use- only that you login to access it.

Confused by the Tech? Let’s Fix That.

If you find yourself overwhelmed by the endless sea of alternatives, conflicting advice, and tech-heavy YouTube videos that ignore practical, real-world workflows—I urge you to sign up for the next Connection Clinic.

This affordable, small-group clinic is designed to get your hands dirty with both old and new versions of Source Connect, alongside other essential web-based alternatives. The next session is just days away, and we will be doing a live, comprehensive run-through of the brand-new Source Recorder. Don't miss out!

Why is this a game-changer for voice actors?

For the longest time, voice actors using GarageBand for session backups faced a major hurdle: it only recorded at 44.1kHz, while the industry standard sits firmly at 48kHz. While Source Connect 3.9 automatically converted that sample rate down the line in real-time, the workflow broke down completely if a remote engineer needed to use Restore and Replace.

While Source Connect 4 solved this under the hood, plenty of voice actors still found themselves scrambling to find a reliable backup solution if they didn't want to boot up a secondary DAW. The common, desperate fix? Opening up the free QuickTime player and just letting it roll.

When you're ready to send the backup- Recorder is here to make it dead simple!

Actors already familiar with Source Nexus Free know the convenience of having a backup baked right into a web-based interface. But Recorder takes this to the next level.

This isn't just a passive backup tool. Right inside a single, simple browser window, you can:

  • Run and capture takes flawlessly.

  • Monitor your input levels with precision.

  • Trim and clean up your audio on the spot.

  • Save and ship your final files directly to the client.

It is a low-stress, elegant solution to an everyday problem.

PS- it works on your iPhone.

Hi Frank, I am very glad to be informed of this new SC feature. Maybe one fewer window to be open in a VO session to save some screen real estate? Many thanks for this post and all the posts!
