As a voice actor, you’re often juggling fast auditions, client deliverables, and a mix of tech tools to get files where they need to go. Maybe you’ve sent off a perfect take only to find out the client never saw the WeTransfer email… because it landed in spam. Or maybe they had to open a browser tab, log into Dropbox, and then navigate a maze of folders.
Let’s talk about smarter, more professional ways to deliver files—whether it’s a quick MP3 audition or a full session of WAV files. These methods are faster, cleaner, and more likely to make you look polished and easy to work with.
⚠️ Note: If a casting director or client gives you specific instructions—always follow those first. But if they say “send it however’s easiest,” these tips will help you choose the most efficient route.

Because “Check your spam folder” shouldn’t be part of your email signature.
✅ 1. Apple iCloud Mail: Built-in Big File Support
If you use Apple Mail and have an iCloud account, you might already have one of the easiest ways to send large files without any third-party apps.
When you attach a file larger than 20MB in Apple Mail, it automatically uploads it to iCloud Mail Drop instead of attaching it directly. Your recipient gets a regular-looking email with a download link.
🔍 Key iCloud Mail Drop Details:
Max single file size: 5 GB
Storage duration: Available for 30 days
Counts against your iCloud storage? Nope!
Do they need an Apple account? Not at all. Anyone can download it.
The take-away: If you’re sending from an iPhone or Mac and your attachment is “too big,” Mail Drop will handle it for you. No separate links, no extra clicks.
📁 2. Google Drive vs. iCloud: Which Is Better?
Both are great—but different tools for different needs.
When to use Google Drive:
You’re sharing multiple large WAVs (e.g. 24-bit/48kHz files)
You need to include session folders or scripts
You want to keep files available long-term
When iCloud is better:
You’re sending one-off files under 5 GB
You want a link without fiddling with permissions
You’re in Apple’s ecosystem (and like simplicity)
🔗 3. Send a WeTransfer Link (Don’t Let WeTransfer Send the Email)
Here’s a little-known trick that makes WeTransfer much more reliable: generate the link yourself.
By default, WeTransfer sends an email to your client. That’s where things go wrong—it can hit spam or be missed entirely. But if you create the link and paste it into your own message, it’s way more likely to land and be opened.
How to do it:
Go to wetransfer.com
Click the small circle with three dots (•••) in the bottom left
Choose “Get transfer link”
Upload your file(s), wait for the upload to finish, then copy the link
Paste that link into your own personalized email
Now your client sees the link in your email—right next to your warm greeting and project notes.
🎧 4. Most Auditions Are Small—So Attach Them!
Many voice actors overthink file delivery for auditions. Truth is, a single MP3 is almost always small enough to attach directly to an email.
Typical MP3 sizes:
30-second spot at 192 kbps: ~750 KB
1-minute read at 256 kbps: ~2 MB
Even with multiple takes, you’re rarely pushing past 10 MB total. Most email systems easily handle attachments up to 20–25 MB.
Tip:
Send a clearly named file (e.g. JaneDoe_Audi_Casting.mp3) and attach it directly—no links needed. One click for your client = one step closer to booking.
🎙 5. For Final Files: Clean and Organized Delivery Matters
When you’re sending high-res files—like all takes, separate selects, or multitrack WAVs—it’s worth taking time to deliver cleanly.
Recommended format:
File type: 24-bit / 48kHz WAV
Folder structure: /ProjectName/Final/, /ProjectName/AltTakes/, etc.
Delivery method: Google Drive, Dropbox, or a WeTransfer link you control
File size examples:
One 30-sec 24/48 WAV: ~9 MB
Ten files with variations: 90–100 MB
Full session folder with backups: Could hit 500 MB or more
For big projects, zip your folders and use Google Drive or a WeTransfer link you paste into your email.
🎯 Final Thoughts: Be Easier to Work With!
Your audio quality gets you noticed. But your delivery method can help seal the deal.
By using better tools—and controlling how links are shared—you make life easier for casting directors and clients. That ease makes you look professional, prepared, and trustworthy.
When in doubt:
✔ Attach small files directly
✔ Use your own email with links
✔ Organize final deliveries clearly
✔ And above all—follow instructions when provided!
